Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 October 2026
This policy explains what YapTube ("YapTube", "we") collects when you use the YapTube browser extension and this website, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Account details (only if you sign in): your Google account's email address and account id, received through Google sign-in, and the handle you choose.
- Profile choices: avatar, vibe, scene, frame and name color.
- Messages: what you post in video, global and room chat, and private messages you send to friends.
- Social data: your friends list, friend requests, blocks, rooms you created or joined, and your privacy settings.
- Activity needed to run features: the id and title of the YouTube video you are watching (to put you in the right room and, if you allow it, to show friends what you are watching), your playback position when you send a message (for replay), predictions, polls and your Sparks balance.
- Subscription records: your plan, its status and renewal date, and Razorpay's reference ids. We never receive or store card numbers, UPI ids or bank details.
- Technical data: your IP address and basic connection logs kept by our hosting providers for security and reliability.
Guests who do not sign in are identified only by the name they type and a temporary id.
What we do not collect
The extension runs only on youtube.com. It does not read your browsing history, your YouTube account, your watch history, your Google password, or any other site. We do not use advertising trackers or sell personal data. This website uses no cookies and no analytics scripts.
How we use it
To run the chat and its features, show your profile to other users, keep accounts secure, prevent spam and abuse, process subscriptions, and answer support requests.
How long we keep it
- Chat messages: each chat (global, each video, each room) keeps its most recent 100 messages; older ones are deleted. A separate replay archive is kept only in memory and is lost when the server restarts.
- Private messages, friends, rooms and profile: until you delete them or your account.
- Subscription and payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Who we share it with
Other YapTube users see your handle, avatar, profile and public messages. We use these service providers to run YapTube, and share only what each needs:
- Supabase (sign-in and database);
- Google (sign-in);
- Render (server hosting) and Cloudflare (website and network);
- Razorpay (payments).
We may disclose information when the law requires it. Your data may be processed in countries other than your own.
Stored on your device
The extension saves your settings, guest name, mute list and sign-in session in your browser's storage. Removing the extension removes them.
Your choices
- Use YapTube as a guest without an account.
- Hide what you are watching from friends, turn off friend requests and gifts, and block people, in the Knobs tab.
- Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account and its data by emailing us from the address on your account.
Children
YapTube is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Connections are encrypted, sign-in is handled by Google and Supabase, and only our server can write to the database. No system is perfectly secure; tell us if you find a problem.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date at the top.
